COVID-19 Guidelines at LUVC

Important updates in these uncertain times

As a valued client of Lake Union Veterinary Clinic (LUVC), we appreciate the trust you place in us. We are reaching out to inform you that LUVC is closely monitoring the current situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19). At LUVC, we are committed to protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our clients, employees, and patients.

At this point, we have no plans for closure and are keeping normal business hours. However, the situation and recommendations continue to evolve so that we might have to change our approach in the future. Please be understanding and know that however we handle things, it is for everyone’s protection.

In alignment with both our company’s core values and recommendations from the CDC and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), we always insist on cleanliness and hygiene at our hospitals. We have intensified efforts in numerous ways to help protect everyone. We are taking extra care between patients to sanitize common areas to minimize exposure risk for everyone.  We are focusing on “Social Distancing” wherever possible, and hope you will understand that while this is not how we would like to operate on a day-to-day basis, we want to be available for you and your pet in their time of need.

We need to make some changes to how we conduct our services during this COVID pandemic. We want to assure you that we are following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Association (AVMA), Washington State Veterinary Medical Association (WSVMA), and leaders in the state of Washington.

Changes with upcoming visits:

If you are ill, have had exposure to COVID patients, and/or have recently traveled to a high-risk country, we ask that your pet not come to the hospital. If you are in this situation and feel that your pet is having a medical emergency, please contact our management team for further guidance on how we might be able to help you.

Medication / Prescription diet refill orders MUST be placed in advance.  24 hours is ideal.  To minimize phone traffic, we ask that you place your request via the Lake Union Veterinary Clinic App (available in the iTunes and Google Play Stores, if you have not yet downloaded it) or via email (info@lakeunionvet.com).  We are unable at this time to handle walk-in / immediate medication and food refill requests.

When your order is ready to pick up, a member of our team will contact you.  PLEASE do not come to the clinic until we contact you.  We are asking that orders be prepaid over the phone, and that you let us know a ‘ballpark’ time you will be in to pick up.

You can also place your order online for home delivery.  This can be selected in the app, or by visiting our virtual storefront at www.lakeunionvet.vetsfirstchoice.com

We are limiting appointments to pets requiring medical attention for acute issues, follow-ups for previously treated medical conditions, and rabies vaccination ONLY.  General well-pet check-ups, annual vaccinations (other than rabies), nail trims and grooming services CANNOT be accommodated at this time.

In order to minimize face-to-face contact time, appointments will be conducted by a veterinarian in the treatment area at LUVC.

Upon arrival to LUVC, call our main number to let us know you have arrived (206)467-5882.  receptionist will meet you at the door and escort you to an available exam room.  We ask that you complete a “Medical intake form” for your pet, describing the medical issue, duration, and any other relevant medical background.

Your pet will be evaluated by a veterinarian in the treatment area of LUVC.  They will formulate a treatment plan for your approval BEFORE any treatments are initiated..

ALL EXAMINATIONS WILL TAKE PLACE, FOR NOW, WITHOUT OWNERS PRESENT. We realize that this is not ideal for any of us; it is for everyone’s protection.

We are looking forward to the day when we can return to ‘business as usual’, but for now hope that by taking seemingly drastic measures, we are able to continue to functioning to preserve public health, and keep EVERYONE feeling good!
